The Blue Angels Are Getting a Makeover

Kind of...

Earlier this week, the U.S. Navy announced a 17 million dollar contract with Boeing to build a squadron of 11 brand spankin’ new retrofitted F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter aircraft.
The Blue Angels currently fly F/A-18Cs and Ds.
And, though the planes––nine FA/18Es and two F/A-18Fs––ARE an upgrade, they won’t be housing any missiles, bombs, or systems used for strike operations.
Boeing will build the aircraft at its St. Louis location, according to the contract announcement. The planes should be completed December 2021.
The Navy also recently announced a new roster of officers for the Blue Angels 2019 show season, including three new demonstration pilots.
