1942 for NES | Gaming Throwback

This vertical scroller hit arcade cabinets in 1984 and was ported to the NES in 1986 selling over one million copies worldwide, according to vgchartz.com. You fly the “Super Ace,” a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, as you fight your way across the Pacific on your way to Tokyo. It might be hard to believe but the game mechanics that made this game stand out during the time was the ability to move your plane forward and back, as well as side to side. There was also a button to perform a loop in order to evade enemy fire. You can upgrade your firepower two ways; First by shooting all red planes, second is to summon two smaller planes to fly in a Tip Tow formation. Speaking of enemies, there’s just a handful of different planes including Kawasakis and Mitsubishis. 1942 was one of Capcom’s first big hits and since then has been ported to countless consoles including iOS devices. How many hours did you spend playing 1942? And which game should we throwback to next time? Let us know in the comments!
